République Café Bakery & République Restaurant

My first time trying  République Café Bakery & République Restaurant after having it on my list for 2 years . I got there around 9 am and used valet. The sign said 8-10am for $5 else $12. There were street parking available, but I already drove in so what the heck. It is not owned by the restaurant and the restaurant does not carry any cash. I saw people paid by venmo. I paid cash and they  didn't give me proper change. Also, the charge was actually $13.25 .  There was a line to get inside. You'd order pastries then order hot food and drinks at the cashier. I would recommend you glance thru as early as you can on the pastries because when it is your turn, pressure is on - what else can I get for you. Menus are available for you to grab while you're in line.  I ordered several pastries to go, more than planned because they all looked amazing. I ordered a ham and cheese croissant and a macha rose latte for here.  I sat at the bar because it was super packed. T...

Kko Kko Yang-Gopchang

Kko Kko Yang-Gopchang in Gardena has buffet menu or 2 meat minimum combo. I like their brisket and pork belly with kimchi.  The server will cut and start the cooking off for you. The combo includes 1 egg omelet, 1 bean stew, and 1 cheese corn to share and banchans that can be refilled.

Pacific Rim

This place in Lawndale has thai dishes, pho, wonton, and stir fry. I tried the pad see ew, tom yum seafood soup, combination fried rice, and egg rolls. I would go back. No loaded with msg, but flavorful and fragrant. They are not cheap with their herbs and galgala.

Yakitori

Just wanted to share what I had at Shinsengumi Yakitori in Gardena. Can't wait to go back.

Ceviche @ Cocina Inka

It is located in a busy plaza, surrounded by other restaurants. There were 6-7 4 seaters tables and 3 tables were occupied. Many of them ordered the rotisserie chicken. I read people were raving about the ceviche on Google and Facebook, so I decided to get just that. It was passed 2PM and I wasn't hungry since brunch. The plate came and it was quite a big portion. I wouldn't say it was pricey for the amount of fish they gave. I do think it is meant to be shared. Note, I have to be in the mood for ceviche, but I really wasn't and I just wanted to verify the claims. I asked for spicy when I ordered. The brine was right on - acidic, perfectly seasoned, and the spicy heat kicked in slowly. They gave some Aji Verde that kicked up the heat some more. I thought they gave me roasted peanuts, but realized they were actually freshly roasted seasoned corn nuts. I think it helped me with eating the dish by changing the texture. I never had sweet yams with cevi...

Cuban and Puerto Rican Bakery, Deli, and Market in Los Angeles

My first time visiting El Nuevo Mundo Market. I was hoping to find a Puerto Rican soft baked cookie/sweet bread that taste like molasse. The area isn't a place for you to wander around. There was only street parking and don't think I would go there by myself.  They close at 7 PM so the selection of food available at 6:45 PM upon arrival didn't allow me to get the roasted pig. They only have that on the weekends. I was so happy to know they still had pasteles, even though they were not made to eat. The prices for the pasteles were the fairest I've seen ($3.25 each). I've ordered them on Facebook made by someone in Lancaster and drove up there to pick them up. I've also ordered some from N.Y. which cost shipping. Those were priced between $5 - $7 each. I was happy to find frozen tostones and had to get some. It will save me a lot of time from preparing next time I want to eat some. Although they didn't have the molasse cookie/sweet bread, I was still glad to h...

Crepe Heaven Cafe

It is located near the back of the plaza. It had a steady pace of customers around 9:30 AM, some were dine in and some were take out, but no long lines. It had a merchandise area near the restroom and a separate dining area that has a play area for kids. On the ordering side, there was a table and a bar, which is where I sat. I ordered #29 (honey, almond slices, banana, and coconut crepe). I got saw my crepe being made in front me. It's gratifying to me to be able to spot it, "yep, that's mine." The servers whom I believe were the owners were very nice and warm. I received my crepe first then my cappuccino. The cappuccino was smooth and delicious. It was one of the best ones I've had. I think it is better than Urth Caffe. It was made with Ethiopian coffee. I like.. The crepe I ordered had a side of whipped cream and I think they put the right proportions of each toppings on the plate which helped balanced the sweetness and chang...
